First Friday's (Catholic Faith Traditions/Practices) - General/Family life

Honor the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

The origin of this Catholic tradition comes from the 17th century when visions were reported in France by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. What was revealed to her directly by Jesus, that He would provide her twelve special promises for those who honor His Sacred Heart the biggest take away being that the most notable grace would be final repentance, which means not dying in mortal sin nor without Sacraments.

Core practices to receive the promises and fulfill the tradition is when nine consecutive Frist Fridays are completed. The manner in which they are notably known to be completed is in the following: you will have gone to Confession prior to attending the First Friday Mass, then you will ensure to attend Mass on the First Friday (attendance being the full Mass not leaving early, prior to the blessing in conclusion to the Mass celebration), and ensure that you receive the Holy Communion with the intention of making reparation for sins committed (knowingly and unknowingly).
